Youth artists drive environmental awareness on World Environment Day in Kisumu, Kenya

As part of the local awareness campaign under the WORM project, led by Pamela Steele Associates in Kenya, a series of activities were organized to raise awareness among communities to promote sustainable waste management practices. A major highlight of this initiative took place during World Environment Day on June 5th, 2025.

The event provided a platform for local youth artists to engage communities through creative expression. During the celebration in Kisumu, young people used drama, poetry, and visual art to spread powerful messages about healthcare waste and its environmental and health consequences. Through their participation, these young artists actively contributed to raising awareness about safer, more responsible waste management practices, using their talents to support the goals of the WORM project and engage diverse audiences across Kisumu County.

To further spread these important messages, the campaign also printed and distributed 400 brochures, 400 posters, and 400 pamphlets in healthcare facilities throughout Kisumu County. These educational materials highlighted the dangers of incineration and introduced safer, alternative methods for waste disposal.
