Vietnam Red Cross Society successfully launched Comprehensive Waste Management Campaign in Thai Nguyen province, Vietnam

On March 18 and 19, the WORM Local Awareness Campaign took place at Dinh Hoa Secondary School and Kim Phuong Primary School in Thai Nguyen Province in Vietnam! Throughout the “Raising Community Awareness on Waste Management” campaign, over 900 participants, including teachers and students were engaged in promoting community action for sustainable waste management.

Under the slogan ‘Green Day – Act for the Environment’, a variety of activities were organised within schools to raise awareness in a fun and engaging way, including creative competitions and interactive sessions. Students also took part in hands-on initiatives such as tree planting, clean-ups, and waste exchange programs, reinforcing their commitment to environmental protection.

As part of the campaign, significant donations were made to the schools, including 24 waste bins, 32 trees, 800 household and daily-use items, as well as school supplies, with a total value of approximately 200 million Dong (around 7 200 euros). These contributions will help the schools continue their sustainability efforts beyond the campaign, fostering long-term environmental awareness and waste management practices.

Such initiatives are crucial, as underscored by the Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, Mr. Nguyen Hai Anh, who stated:

“Proper waste management is not only the responsibility of authorities but also of society as a whole. We need to take action today to build a green, sustainable future and protect public health […]. This is an opportunity for each citizen to contribute to the country’s sustainable development.”

In this spirit, the Vietnam Red Cross Society aims to mobilize a broad network of stakeholders, including organizations, businesses, healthcare institutions, and individuals, encouraging collective action towards a greener, cleaner, and more sustainable future.

This campaign’s success showcases that collective action and community engagement are key to fostering sustainable waste management practices!
