The Medical Waste Management Validation Workshop took place on October 3, 2024. The purpose of this workshop was to validate key findings from the Medical Waste Management: An Overview of Existing Disinfection Methods research conducted by PSA and get input and feedback from the stakeholders on strategies for improving the handling, treatment, and disposal of medical waste. Attendees included stakeholders from international humanitarian organisations, a waste management company, and a research institution, all of whom provided insights into the practical challenges and potential improvements for medical waste management systems.

Overview of the Workshop:
The workshop began with a comprehensive presentation on the current state of medical waste
management within different settings.
The presentation covered:
- The types of medical waste generated by healthcare facilities.
- Existing disposal and treatment methods.
- Challenges faced by the healthcare sector in managing medical waste.
- Recommendations made to different actors, including the Waste management service providers,
Humanitarian organisations, healthcare facilities and the government.
The session provided an opportunity for participants to review the strategies presented and share
feedback from their diverse organizational perspectives.
